Brückenkopf reviews the Eisenkern APC 'Keilerkopf'

Another fantastic review by Brückenkopf - Thank you Christian!

Unfortunately I have been tied up with other details so I missed the initial review on October 5th.

I will to go into that in my next post did a few days from now.

For now, enjoy this in depth review with 68 photos! I can only imagine how much work Christian put into this review.... hats off to you sir.

Review was run through Google translate so there may be a few oddities in speech or phrase :)

From Brückenkopf: head on over to see the full size shots!

Today, it is large and image-intensive. We have once again put together a great review for you!

DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_1
Today we take the massive boar head of APC Dreamforge Games before:
AT A GLANCE:
Manufacturer: Dream Forge Games Product: boar head APC Price: $ 65.00 (in Germany ungeführ 58.00 to 65.00 Euro) Material: hard plastic

Unwrapped:
$ 65 is a lot of wood. So what do you get for your money? Such is the content of the box:
DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_2
There are tires and a screwdriver - iron core veterans are expected to no longer wonder about the Latter Because at Dreamforge Often screws are used for moving parts.
DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_3 DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_4
Then there are some major body parts:
DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_5
And several cast frame:

So there are two cast frame for the crew and the passengers. These are compatible with the other Ironcore Troopers:

To see some details:

The box is really tightly packed, and the sheer number of components can hope to enjoy the building process (or before shudder). We have assembled for you Completely Documented.
Assembly:
Unfortunately, the first edition of the model comes right at the start with a handicap: The instruction is incorrect and it is strongly advised to download on updated manual is at Dreamforge Games:

We start with the riders:
DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_27
Then it goes to the substructure and the cockpit Further:

This is Followed by the benches for passengers who Actually complete and fit in the vehicle (8 seats behind each a seat next to the front doors)!

Next, the two front doors follow:

And then the sidewalls:

It continued with the motor section and the rear door:

Now it what time for the wheels. The tires are made of rubber and can be combined with The Two rim halves:

Here the wheels are fixed later:

The front wheels are swiveling and have a working handlebar:

Finally it what time tighten the wheels, and then cover the screws with additional components:

This was Followed by the wheelarches:
DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_51 DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_52
After that, only missing the roof of the model, Which has four working hatches for crewmembers. What you do not see here: Inside the boar head located at the guards of the four passengers folding steps, on Which Actually iron core Soldiers Can Be Placed, Which can then protrude from the hatches and fire:

The APC is armed with a machine gun tower, Which is built as follows:
DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_55 DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_56 DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_57
The joints are fixed herewith The Small, transparent plastic pins, diedie joints in position but keep fully articulated.
Finish:
DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_58 DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_59
As you can see, I have omitted the passengers, Their Components I want to use profitably elsewhere (as crew for Heavy Weapons, to mission objectives or terrain pieces, etc ...).
Size comparison:
This time we have borrowed for a size comparison Baneblade and a Leman Russ. As you can see, the boar head straight in comparison to the imperial standard tanks is extremely massive, dimensions of a super heavy tank, but it does not reach.

Another picture with comparative Minis follows below.
Painting:
In the painting of the boar head I wanted to try another product, Which for far too long on my painting table is: The new stencils of PK-Pro. I already had experience with Anarchy-Stencils, the masking of PK-Pro was me but new.
Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_62 Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_63
The model which primed black, with a very dark gray for minimal highlighting (Airbrush) and then covered with the stencils. The Maskierflicken adhered without problems We could be processed very pleasant. Following the model in two stages what Gray and Light Gray airbrushed before the patches were removed.
The PK-Pro Stencils have this works without any problems, theywere easy to apply and remove, and the masking effect which flawless. Definitely an alternative to other manufacturers! At the end I had for the whole model just one eighth of the stencils used up (I have it, They Dispensed again to the carrier film to puzzles) - You Could Easily quite mask the vehicles to army so with a charge.
Here are highlights, details, pigments and all sorts of bells and whistles, until the model finally Looked like this:
DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_bemalt 1 DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_bemalt 2 DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_bemalt 3 DF_Dreamforge_Keilerkopf_Review_bemalt 4
The transparent-blue discs were stained red with Tamiya Clear Red, Which theyhave unfortunately become uneven, but the tone fits better with the rest of the troops.
What's left to do?
  • Details correct, improve a little here and there
  • Revise the lights
  • The body of the driver by Hardplastic Enforcer replace (the APC is part of my Enforcer Force)
Conclusion:
Wow, That was a really huge project. The Boars Head is a powerful incredibly large model with many loving details. Almost everything is movable to him, and all the areas are fully modeled. Doors, hatches, steps, hood and turret - really everything can be moved.
The parts of the model are all poured almost perfectly and the number of mold lines is minimal. The fit is impressive and the assembly goes smoothly by hand. Dreamforge Games show here once again thatthey are in terms of plastic casting long can compete with the greats of the industry.
Of course, thesis benefits come at a price, and with around 58-65 euros the boar head is definitely to expensive model. Because of the sheer mass of parts, the perfect workmanship and the factthat Dreamforge Games are silent on extremely small company with limited opportunities for cross-financing, the price is understandable, the purchase of a Keilerkops makes itself but CLEARLY the purse noticeable.
From us there at this point but a clear buy recommendation. If you like the look of the wild boar head and on alternative APC of studied for its sci-fi or Pulp troupe doing here is absolutely nothing wrong and can look forward to a great kit.

Two New Releases, Gencon Sale and BOW teases Mechanicus week

August sees two new releases for the Keilerkopf APC! Preorders will be accepted starting July 30th, to coincide with our Gencon sale.

THOR APC UPGRADE -  28mm (1/56) scale

*The Thor upgrade will fit the base Keilerkopf APC or the Odin Loki AFV variants (not included). The kit includes six rocket pods that mount three per side on the vehicle hull. This kit may be added to an existing APC or AFV at any time.

Features:

◦ Six rocket pods

The Thor upgrade, gained its name from the tremendous noise and damage created when a salvo strikes its target, as if Thor’s hammer had been pounded on the unfortunate target.

Perfect for dealing with entrenched infantry or pesky fortifications. Each rocket may be fired as an individual shot or as a salvo of six high explosive or incendiary rockets. Due to the reload time in the field, these are loaded to specification before battle.

ODIN – LOKI APC CONVERASION  28mm (1/56) scale

*The Odin - Loki APC conversion will fit the base Keilerkopf APC (not included). The kit includes a detailed interior replacement for the APC and the barrel and shell components required to create either the Odin or the Loki AFV. This kit must be assembled as either an Odin or Loki variant at the time the APC is assembled. Due to the width and placement of the new interior components it will not be possible to add this to an already assembled Keilerkopf APC.

Features:

◦ Highly detailed interior for the APC

◦ Tilting barrel assembly and specific shell carrier for both the Odin and Loki variants

◦ Spotter and Gunner crew members

The Odin conversion, aptly named for the Norse god Odin, ‘the god of thunder’. The massive main gun throws an immense high explosive round down range with considerable destructive potential.

The Loki conversion, takes its name from the Norse god Loki ‘the trickster’. A quick view of the vehicle from a distance may lend the observer to dismiss the vehicle as a personnel carrier, a deadly mistake. This AFV is armed with a high caliber anti-tank gun capable of swiftly dispatching heavily armed vehicles from a great distance.

Valkir Support Troopers - Another amazing review by Brückenkopf

Christian over at Brückenkopf supply’s us with another amazing review. This time they are reviewing the Valkir Support Troopers .

Thank you again Christian and Brückenkopf for another great review!

As with every Brückenkopf review, tons of pictures and a well thought out review. I ran the review through Google Translate so that you might read the review as well. Google does a pretty good job but it not perfect, there will be some reading between the lines here and there but its pretty easy to understand.

Please pay them a visit and say hello Brückenkopf Review

Today we take another kit of Dreamforge Games under the microscope.

At a glance:

 Manufacturer: Dream Forge Games

Product: iron core Valkir Support Troopers

 Price: 22,00 EUR (5 man)

 Material: Hard Plastic

The Support Troopers expand the range of Valkirs to another kit.  The Valkirs is the heavily armored "knight Warriors" the iron core soldier, presently there for you three kits, one of which we already Assault Troopers in an earlier review had come under scrutiny.

 The cast frame
Today, we start again with the cast frame.  The box contains a half-cast frames that are filled to the brim:

Numerous items, which we'll discuss later.  First, it is time for a look at the details:

Once again, the parts are cast absolutely sharp and full of detail.  The casting quality of support Troopers is at first glance at the level of Dreamforge already well-known, high.

  The assembly

At the beginning of our building report, we take a look at the blueprint:

Sometimes a little small and simple, but on the whole, all options will be sufficient well explained.  The main problem is once again that even with the support Troopers again parts were mislabeled in the cast frame.  Fortunately, the error affected only the numbers, the letters, which are assigned to the parts of a weapon / pose, were correct.

First, we have rebuilt the legs also here:

This was followed by the torsos:

This was followed by the most difficult part: the weapons poses.  Show falls on the many small bits that assembly into a relatively complex action machen.Wie already earlier kits the iron core series are also Valkir Support Troopers rather a kit for advanced hobbyists.

After gluing we obtain the following upper body:

On the legs that looks like this (we even other bases used that match the rest of the army):

This was followed by the shoulder pads and the heads (there are three designs to choose from) and at the end saw the models as follows:

 The size comparison

Of course, this should not be missed:

As you can see, the fall Valkirs massive than the normal iron core Trooper, but as the Space Marines of GW since Snapfit Navy shown here have grown little, they offer themselves as proxies to absolutely.

 The Conclusion
Even with the support Troopers provide Dreamforge Games once again from a very high quality and excellently crafted kit.  The pieces fit together all problems, the mold lines are weak and can be removed quickly.  The assembly is characterized by the many small parts relatively complex, but the precision fit mitigates this issue somewhat.

The poses of the Support Troopers are quite rigid and largely fixed at least in the upper bodies, in view of the over heavy weapons but this is more comprehensible than the Assaut Troopers, where slightly more poses and options would have been much more important.  That each weapon only once in the box is, on the one hand a pity, another solution would be due to the many parts and the associated space requirements to cast frame but not have been possible.  As the box is priced fair with 22 euros, provides in doubt, also a duplicate purchase.

So the conclusion is even more positive, and all those who Marines or other heavily armored Sci-Fi are troops on the lookout for old Natien Space, can strike without hesitation at the Valkirs.

Eisenkern Command Squad and 28mm Scale Right Handed Vulkan Released!

I am happy to announce, two more kits take their trek into the wild.

28mm (1/56) scale. *Cross compatible with Stormtrooper, Panzerjäger and Stormtrooper Accessory Set.
This kit contains command squad elements and special MOS soldiers to round out the skills and abilities of an Eisenkern infantry force.
Kit contains: Ten soldiers and equipment.

  • 1 Platoon Commander
  • 1 Platoon Sergeant
  • 2 Sniper Teams (Sniper and Spotter)
  • 1 Communications Officer, signal relay and Cargo MULE
  • 1 Medic with specialized Triage MULE
  • 1 Forward Observer team with designator, signal relay and Cargo MULE

28mm (1/56) scale Leviathan accessory weapon arm was designed to be used with the fast swap arm option for both the (28mm) Leviathan Crusader and Leviathan Mortis and all other variants that share the same chassis.

The Vulkan Cannon was designed to face down the fast moving and shielded Shadokesh walkers. Placing volume fire against one shield or walking rounds on target make this weapon a valuable asset. The Vulkan suffers from underpowered propellant charges and limited ammunition supply, but nothing can lay down a field of fire like the monstrous Vulkan Cannon.

Our good friends over at Dakka Dakka have started their own miniature line and game.

For those of you who follow the gaming news and happenings you will likely be aware of Dakka Dakka, one of my favorite forums to hang out at. I would like to take a moment to introduce you to Maelstrom's Edge.

Why is DreamForge promoting another companies line? Wargaming is a niche market and sci-fi a sub market within the niche. I am happy to help my friends out and perhaps reach potential customers that my not travel in the same circles but share common interest. In my humble view, anything that helps grow the hobby is a good thing for all of us, customers and companies alike.

Maelstrom's Edge is a science fiction game with an absolutely lovely mix of hard sci-fi and space opera. The game is designed to be an intimate game, played with up to 30 models per side with a decidedly tactical gameplay that  still remains fast and furious. Having chatted with the creator many times and knowing the thought and attention to detail that went into every aspect, I can tell you the amount of work put into this game is awe inspiring. Seriously! Books, audio books, game assets such as cards art and models. It makes my head swim just thinking about it.

They are in the final hours of their Kickstarter and are offering some great values at low cost of entry. Hard plastic miniatures, many produced by Wargames Factory. The same manufacturer I use to produce my kits. Many Kickstarters only provide concept art, this project is nearly complete with the vast majority of the time consuming mold work already done.

What’s in the Kickstarter? I will let them tell you a bit about the project.

------------------------------------------------

The owners of Dakka Dakka, the online wargaming community, have spent the past three and a half years developing a tabletop wargame using real plastic models in 28-32mm scale. The kickstarter for Dakka's spinoff game project - Maelstrom's Edge - ends in just a couple of days, and now is your last chance to get in at exceptional value...

  • 39 multi-part, multi-pose sprue based plastic models, including stuff only available as part of the kickstarter. Less than £1.54/$2.30 per model!
  • A 10% discount on any other Maelstrom's Edge stuff you buy for 2 years
  • The first, freshest copies of the sprues from production, with the highest quality control and smallest mould lines, and getting them before anybody else.
  • Your only chance this year to get your hands on the plastic terrain sprue
  • The chance to participate in the Maelstrom's Edge rules beta, helping to shape the rules and game and to be in on day one of a universe which will only grow across many types of media.

If you are on the fence about backing Maelstrom's Edge, but do want to see it succeed, then backing on kickstarter now will help much more compared to just buying it later, and we'll be sure to look after you as a thank you too!

We've revealed a lot of stuff over the past month and a half, including but not limited to:

A free audiobook (free until the kickstarter ends, so download it now before it is too late!)

"Gaskell gives a great glimpse into the Maelstrom's Edge universe, and Ansdell's narration is spot on." - infinite_array

Three free short stories available, and news that Alastair Reynolds and other top sci-fi authors are participating in the Maelstrom's Edge universe.

The Shipyard, The Hunter, The Scarecrow

The unveiling of our biggest beastie - The Karist Angel, 2 of which are in every set (kickstarter only!)

An overview of the game's rules
Some of the crazy conversions that are possible with everything being made in real plastic

A complete card game included in every set to play while you wait for a table at your FLGS:

We hope you'll take the time to check out the kickstarter today, and get in on it before it is too late! Thanks from all of us at Dakka for your interest and your support!
